This year we are taking lessons at a center called Swimwell. Their expertise lies with children with disabilities, but they expanded over the years to include all littles one that need help in mastering this most difficult skill.
Kendal is very hestitant, scared, fearful all to the 10th power. She has tried everything from a stomach ache to heart ache to "needing to go to the bathroom", to eyes hurt too bad (from allergies), to you name it, she is trying to use it to get out of these lessons. My stomach gets in such knots, but I know it is for her good to learn.
She is swimming much better this year, but has learned how to manipulate these folks into - "come closer I can't swim that far", to major crying which works very well on this guy. He can't stand seeing her tears looking at me to determine if we need to keep going.
At first she was a dolphin, then she did cry so much they moved her back down to the turtle category. I will say she did enjoy this group mainly of 2 year olds, but when she master this areas techniques they moved her back to the dolphin category. Hoping we will achieve the shark category which mean she can swim the length of the pool. Cross your fingers, but in the 7 lessons we've been in, I've seen other kids go from not wanting to put their heads under water to swimming the length of the pool. I will be happy with 1/2 or even 1/4. Mainly want her to be safe and have fun this summer in the pool.
